Jarrad Fisher: Butano Creek Floodplain Restoration Geomorphic Response

Butano Creek in flood, with tiles for monitoring sediment accumulation

Terrestrial LiDAR surveys were conducted before and after the installation of the Butano Creek Floodplain Restoration Project to assess the geomorphic responses that have occurred in Butano Creek San Mateo County, California. The Pescadero-Butano Watershed has been extensively modified by anthropogenic forces and as a result the historic floodplain has been largely disconnected from Butano Creek due to stream incision and channel simplification. This study focuses on monitoring the geomorphic responses that have occurred as a result of the restoration efforts in Butano Creek and attempts to understand how those efforts have affected sediment storage and channel morphology.
