Collections and Access
The library is a resource for geography students and other members of the campus community, and is open to the public. The map librarian can assist visitors in locating materials necessary for completing projects and assignments. If the library does not have materials that users need, the librarian will direct users to other sources. Materials available in the map library include, but are not limited to:
- Maps (USGS Topoquads, AAA Maps, Various Thematic Maps, General Purpose Maps and Historical Maps)
- Field Research Equipment
- Atlases (Goodes, National Geographic, Various Collections)
- Audio Visual Equipment (Overheads, Slide Projectors, Laptops)
- Assorted Small Equipment (Calculators, Rulers, Drafting Compasses, etc.)
- Blank U.S. Base Maps
- Blank/Outline Maps
Enrolled students may borrow equipment for geography class projects or independent research by presenting a student I.D. Professor approval may be necessary. Equipment is generally available for up to two weeks at a time, but borrowing periods may be shorter due to demand. Some equipment requires prior experience or training. All equipment must be returned clean and dry to the map librarian by the due date.
SFSU Geography alumni and students from other departments may be able to borrow equipment with approval from a Geography department faculty member.
